At Split Butte, we are dedicated to the production of superior Hereford genetics on the high mountain desert of South Central Idaho. Our cattle are practical, productive and excel in a variety of settings. From commercial herds using Hereford genetics to make the famed black baldy, to our seedstock customers developing their herds off our genetics, we take great pride in providing a product that is meets the needs of the industry.

Since the early 1970's when Warren Heins and family started raising Polled Hereford cattle at this same location, Herefords have had a home amongst the potatoes, sugar beets, wheat and hay grown on the fertile Snake River plain. Many of the neighboring farms were part of veteran administration homesteading programs and helped break out the desert into irrigated farmland. Families and friends have been the backbone of this operation for generations, and we sincerely appreciate our extended “cattle family”.
